SoCal IP Institute :: March 16, 2015 :: Discussion of Blurred Lines copyright infringement verdict

Our weekly SoCal IP Institute meeting on Monday, March 16, 2015, will be a group discussion of the Blurred Lines jury verdict. On Tuesday, March 10, 2015, a jury held that Robin Thicke and Pharrell Williams infringed Gaye’s copyrights with their hit song, “Blurred Lines,” and awarded $7.4 million to Gaye’s estate. This Washington Post article (http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/style-blog/wp/2015/03/11/the-blurred-lines-of-the-blurred-lines-verdict/) includes an audio clip playing both Thicke’s hit song and Gaye’ “Got to Give it Up.” In addition, this LA Times article offers an interesting opinion (http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/music/la-et-ms-blurred-lines-notebook-pharrell-williams-robin-thicke-marvin-gaye-20150306-column.html#page=1).

All are invited to join us in our discussion during the SoCal IP Institute meeting on Monday, March 16, 2015, at Noon in our Westlake Village office. This activity is approved for 1 hour of MCLE credit. If you will be joining us, please RSVP to Noelle Smith by 9 am Monday morning.
